Rockové nebe přivítalo bohužel další hudební osobnost. V úterý 8.3.2011 zemřel ve svých 44 letech někdejší baskytarista ALICE IN CHAINS, Mike Starr. Příčina smrti nebyla zveřejněna, ale jeho problémy s drogami byly známé. Před devíti lety zemřel na předávkování drogami zpěvák ALICE IN CHAINS Layne Staley.

Kapela ALICE IN CHAINS, která se v původní sestavě a s novým zpěvákem Williamem DuVallem dala znovu dohromady v roce 2005, se s Mikem Starrem rozešla po vydání průlomové desky „Dirt“, která vyšla v roce 1992. Tehdy jej nahradil Mike Inez.

 Příčina smrti bude určena později, toxikologické testy mohou trvat i dva měsíce. Nic nenasvědčuje tomu, že by mělo jít o násilný čin.
